I may mention that at the recent execution committed on board the American Ship "Mastiff" (see Despatch N/41 of this date) it was thought advisable to procure the attendance of Military, in addition to a Police Force, to guard against any attempt at rescue — a measure to which we have not resorted for years.

I am sorry to be compelled to add that the character of many of the Crews of American Ships coming from California and Australia especially, is so disorderly that a Consul with qualities not possessed by Mr Keenan is exceedingly desirable.
